ABOUT THE SERVICE
What Is Cloud Connectivity?
Cloud connectivity is an extension of an organization’s private network to a cloud platform like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. The connection bypasses the public internet, delivering predictable latency, consistent bandwidth, and improved security. Cloud connectivity is delivered through dedicated fiber to a cloud provider’s on-ramp facility, with the cloud platform carrying traffic across its own network from there.
Internet-based cloud access routes traffic from the office, through the ISP, across multiple internet hops, and finally to the cloud platform. Latency varies, performance fluctuates during peak hours, and the path relies on the security model of the public internet. For applications like ERP, CRM, real-time data processing, and regulated workloads, that variability creates operational risk.
Cloud connectivity replaces the public internet path with dedicated fiber to a cloud on-ramp facility, the data center where the cloud provider has direct network access. Traffic routes through KFN’s regional backbone to the on-ramp, then onto the cloud platform’s network directly. The result is predictable performance, consistent bandwidth, and a private path end to end.
For general internet access, see Dedicated Internet Access. For site-to-site connectivity between offices, data centers and cloud-connected locations, see Ethernet.
CLOUD PLATFORM COVERAGE
Which Cloud Platforms Does KFN Connect To?
KFN provides direct cloud connectivity to AWS (via AWS Direct Connect), Microsoft Azure (via Azure ExpressRoute), Google Cloud (via Cloud Interconnect), and other major cloud platforms. Each connection delivers predictable latency, dedicated bandwidth, and consistent performance. Cloud platform support is delivered through carrier-neutral cloud on-ramp facilities in Kansas City and Wichita.
Cloud On-Ramps at a Glance
| Cloud Platform | KFN On-Ramp Service | Bandwidth Tiers | How It Connects |
|---|---|---|---|
| AWS (Amazon Web Services) | AWS Direct Connect | 1G, 10G, 100G dedicated | Dedicated fiber path to AWS Direct Connect on-ramps, bypassing the public internet |
| Microsoft Azure | Azure ExpressRoute | 50 Mbps to 100 Gbps by circuit type | Dedicated fiber path to Azure ExpressRoute peering locations |
| Google Cloud | Cloud Interconnect | 10G and 100G dedicated (Partner Interconnect for smaller tiers) | Dedicated fiber path to Google Cloud Interconnect facilities |

Major Cloud Platforms
AWS (Amazon Web Services): KFN delivers dedicated fiber paths to AWS Direct Connect on-ramp facilities. Direct Connect supports private VIFs for VPC connections, public VIFs for public AWS services, and transit VIFs for AWS Transit Gateway.
Microsoft Azure: KFN delivers dedicated fiber paths to Azure ExpressRoute peering locations. ExpressRoute supports private peering for Azure VNet connections and Microsoft peering for Office 365 and other Microsoft services.
Google Cloud: KFN delivers dedicated fiber paths to Google Cloud Interconnect facilities. Cloud Interconnect supports both Dedicated Interconnect (10G or 100G dedicated) and Partner Interconnect (smaller bandwidth tiers via partners).
Other Cloud Platforms: Cloud platforms like Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud support direct connectivity through similar on-ramp models. KFN can scope direct connectivity to any cloud platform with on-ramp facilities reachable from the regional fiber backbone.
On-Ramp Configurations
Cloud on-ramp facilities are data centers where cloud providers maintain direct network access. Customers connect to a cloud on-ramp via fiber. The cloud platform carries traffic from the on-ramp onto its own network. KFN’s regional backbone provides direct routes to multiple on-ramp facilities across Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Bandwidth tiers typically follow the cloud platform’s defined service tiers. AWS Direct Connect supports 1G, 10G, and 100G dedicated. Azure ExpressRoute supports 50 Mbps to 100 Gbps depending on circuit type. Google Cloud Interconnect supports 10G and 100G dedicated.
Redundancy
Cloud workloads typically require redundant connectivity for production traffic. Redundancy options include dual on-ramp connections at the same facility, geographically diverse on-ramp connections at different facilities, and combined fiber and internet failover paths. The right approach depends on the workload’s criticality. KFN’s engineering team scopes redundancy options as part of every engagement.
KFN CLOUD CONNECTIVITY SERVICE
How Does KFN Deliver Cloud Connectivity?
KFN delivers cloud connectivity on an owned fiber backbone covering Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. KFN’s cloud paths reach AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and other major cloud platforms through carrier-neutral cloud on-ramp facilities in Kansas City and Wichita. Bandwidth tiers, redundancy options, and route configurations are scoped per engagement, with 24/7 support from a Kansas-based engineering team.
KFN’s Cloud Connectivity Includes
KFN’s Cloud Connectivity Includes
- Direct fiber paths to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and other major cloud platforms
- Connections to carrier-neutral cloud on-ramp facilities in Kansas City and Wichita
- Bandwidth tiers scaled to cloud platform service tiers (typically 1G to 100G)
- Redundant connectivity options for production workloads
- Private cloud paths that avoid public internet variability
- Direct access to KFN’s Kansas-based engineering team, 24/7
- Owned fiber across Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, not leased capacity
- Scalable bandwidth as cloud workloads grow
Cloud Connectivity is often paired with other KFN services. Customers add Internet (DIA) for general internet access alongside cloud paths, Ethernet for site-to-site connectivity into the cloud-connected network, and Klear for unified visibility across cloud and site connectivity.
COMMON CONFIGURATIONS
Two Common Ways KFN Customers Configure Cloud Connectivity
KFN cloud connectivity engagements typically follow two models: Enterprises connecting their own infrastructure to one or more cloud platforms, and carriers and ISPs reselling cloud connectivity to their own customers. Each configuration uses the same underlying KFN fiber infrastructure to reach cloud on-ramp facilities, with different scope, bandwidth, and contract structure.
Configuration 1
Enterprise Cloud Connectivity
For enterprises connecting their WAN or private network to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or other cloud platforms. Single-site enterprises typically connect from one location to one or two cloud platforms. Multi-location enterprises extend cloud connectivity across their broader network using Ethernet services between offices, data centers, and cloud-connected infrastructure, with consistent bandwidth and SLA terms across locations. Often combined with Internet (DIA) for shared public internet connectivity. Engagements run through KFN’s enterprise sales engineering team.

Carrier Reseller Cloud Connectivity
For carriers, ISPs, and other providers reselling cloud connectivity to their own customers. KFN provides the underlying direct cloud path. The carrier handles customer-facing service delivery and SLA management to their end customers. Engagements run through KFN’s wholesale team rather than the standard enterprise sales process.
